How do snakes drink?

Sorry I missed the last couple of days, I was held hostage by a cat sleeping on my lap when I was going to sit down to write. Here is an extra cool thing I learned.

Apparently, how snakes drink is a very interesting bio-mechanical question that scientists don’t fully understand the answer to. Snakes do not have lips, and they do not toss their head back to swallow the way lizards do. Turns out different snakes do different things. Scientists have figured out two ways some snakes will drink water. Some will create a seal around the edge of their mouth, functionally turning their whole mouth into a straw. Other snakes just stick their mouth in the water and the skin on the inside of their mouth acts like a sponge, where all the tiny folds will expand to fill with water.

Bonus fun fact: Sea snakes drink a layer of rainwater that collects on the surface of the ocean after storms.
